Palos Hills: The South Side Shooters boys basketball program will hold tryouts for the spring session Feb. 23 at Moraine Valley, 11100 S. 88TH Ave. Kids in grades five to six will try out from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and grades seven to eight from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The South Side Shooters girls team, open to girls in grades three to 11, will hold tryouts from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 23 and from 7 to 9 p.m. March 7 and 9, also at Moraine. Running
Chicago: St. Xavier University will hold an indoor duathlon from 8 to 11 a.m. Feb. 26 at the Shannon Center, 3600 W. 103rd St. Racers will run or walk for 15 minutes around the indoor track, then ride 15 minutes on a stationary bike, then run or walk for another 15 minutes. The goal is to complete as many laps/miles possible in the time frame. Fees: $15 for SXU students, $20 for SXU staff, alumni and Shannon Center members, $25 for public.
Soccer
Oak Forest: Registration is open for the Oak Forest Park District’s recreational soccer league, open to kids in grades 1 to 8. Games will be played Sundays, beginning in April. A Kicks for Kids program, open to pre-K and kindergarten students, will also be held on Monday and Wednesday nights beginning in May. Fees: $115 for soccer league, $105 for Kicks for Kids.
