Give Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner credit for at least trying to compromise. As an editorial in the Chicago Tribune says:
“He took office in January 2015 with 44 items on his Turnaround Agenda. He dropped most due to opposition and as gestures in compromise. He’s open to a politically risky tax hike. Anything else?”
Compromise is not pretty. It’s a matter of getting half of what you want and half of what you don’t, but in House Speaker Michael Madigan’s world the king gets all he demands. And the citizens of Illinois are left to pick up the tab.
