
At least four early-morning carjackings have been reported in a single police beat in the Gresham neighborhood over the past month, according to Chicago police.
They have occurred in the:
8200 block of South Green Street about 12:20 a.m. on March 11
8100 block of South May Street about 5:10 a.m. on March 13
8500 block of South Carpenter Street about 5:55 a.m. on March 24
1200 block of West 81st Street about 12:04 a.m. on April 2
Victims provided police varying descriptions of those involved. In two of the four incidents, suspects displayed guns and demanded vehicles. In two others, the vehicles were forcibly taken, but guns were not used.
The attack on Green involved two men, 19 or 20 years old, but the victim provided no clothing or hair description. The attack on May involved one man, 5-foot-11 to 6 feet tall, who the victim said was slender.
On Carpenter, the victim described a 20- to 30-year-old man between 5-foot-7 and 6 feet tall and weighing 150 to 175 pounds. The 81st Street attack involved three men who are 6-foot to 6-foot-4.
The victims in each attack described the attacker or attackers as black men.
