April 28 is Arbor Day this year. During the international holiday, individuals and groups are encouraged to plant and care for trees. The first American Arbor Day, in Nebraska City, Neb., was the idea of J. Sterling Morton, a Nebraska newspaper editor. On April 10, 1872, an estimated 1 million trees were planted throughout the state. His son Joy Morton was the founder of the Morton Salt Co. in Chicago and also created The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Ill., in 1922.
