The Lake Bluff Village Board formed a new committee on April 24 to review residential building regulations.

The Residential Building Ad Hoc Committee was formed after the Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals considered a text amendment regarding using attics to calculate floor area ratio, said Drew Irvin, village manager.

“That discussion brought out a number of people who were not in favor of the text amendment,” Irvin said. “The Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals decided not to pursue the text amendment, but to create an ad hoc committee and investigate this issue and other issues.”

Irvin said the Residential Building Committee will look at village code, what other communities are doing, best practices, subdivision regulations and residential design requirements. It will be composed of nine members with backgrounds that include real estate, design, zoning, architecture, engineering and law, Irvin said.

Resident Jim Moss will chair the committee.

“We’re going to take a holistic look at the framework of zoning regulation pertaining to residential buildings and see where there are areas where that framework of different rules and regulations might not work well together,” Moss said. “We’re also going to look at historical preservation standards and see if there are any recommendations we can make.”
