An Aurora man has been found guilty of battering and choking his girlfriend in a St. Charles apartment.

Kane County Associate Judge David P. Kliment convicted 25-year-old Nicholas L. Janacek, of the 600 block of Hartford Avenue, of aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony, and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

Janacek waived his right to a jury trial.

Kane County prosecutors presented evidence that on July 30, 2015, the girlfriend returned to the St. Charles home she shared with Janacek. Janacek, who was intoxicated, began to argue with the victim, prosecutors said. He then threw objects at her and struck her before he threw her onto a couch and choked her, according to prosecutors.

Kliment set Janacek’s next court appearance for July 5 at the Kane County Judicial Center. Janacek faces a sentence of probation or between three and seven years’ imprisonment, according to a press release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Janacek had been free on bond. Kliment revoked bond and ordered Janacek taken into custody at the Kane County jail.
