The hours at Oswego’s Little White School Museum have changed for the first time in four years.
New museum hours are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The museum’s new research area and archives are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. In addition, the archives and research area are open to researchers by appointment, according to a press release from the museum.
“The new museum hours are aimed at encouraging more visitors,” explained Museum Director Roger Matile in the release. “We saw that our former hours limited the number of Scout, 4-H and other groups that could schedule after-school visits. We also hope the new, longer afternoon hours will encourage more visits during special exhibits, such as our annual Veterans Day exhibit.”
From the time the museum room was fully renovated and opened in 1983, the museum was only open every other Sunday afternoon and staffed by Oswegoland Heritage Association Board members.
In 2003, the Oswegoland Park District agreed to provide part-time museum assistants to staff the reception desk so the hours could be expanded to 23 hours per week. Over the next decade, hours were gradually expanded to 52 hours a week. The most recent change will add another hour to the museum’s weekly hours, according to the release.
