Downtown Hammond Art Walk
The fifth Downtown Hammond Art Walk will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at eight art spaces within walking distance of each other. Following is a lineup of venues and activities: Substation No. 9, 435 Fayette St., featuring The Unwonted “Take it Outside” third annual pop-up gallery, live art and music fest; Towle Theater, 5205 Hohman Ave., showcasing the work of Northwest Indiana artist Leona Jurincie; Hammond Public Library, 564 State St., displaying an array of photographs by Joe Ladendorf; greenCOW Coworking, 5209 Hohman Ave., connecting the art and business communities of Northwest Indiana with more than 35 local artists exhibited; Mark Anderson Studios, 5246 Hohman Ave., Suite 205, the working space of artist and commercial illustrator Mark Anderson; EAT restaurant and gallery, 5201 Hohman Ave., displaying the work of local artist Wayne Thomas Abell; Flex Creative Studios, 5129 Hohman Ave., the working studio of fine artist and muralist Felix Maldonado who will be mural-painting on the east side of the building; Paul Henry’s Art Gallery, 416 Sibley St., running a concurrent exhibit of the work of 40 South Lake Artist Co-op artists along with the ongoing group show of 150 regional artists. National Lakeshore programs
Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore will host two programs. A ranger-led bike ride, from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, will start at the Paul H. Douglas Center, 100 N. Lake St., Gary. The ride will travel along the Marquette bike trail to West Beach and back. Mount Baldy hikes will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on three dates: Sunday, and June 18 and 25. The hikes will begin at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, 1215 N. Indiana 49, Porter. After a brief introduction, participants will drive their own cars to Mount Baldy for a ranger-led hike to the top of the dune. The tours are free but reservations are required at 219-395-1882. Bicycle event for Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana will host Spinning Spokes, Feeding Folks on Sunday starting at the Trek Bicycle Store, 651 U.S. 30, Schererville. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. with an 8 a.m. start time for the 25- and 40-mile riders, and a 9 a.m. start for the 15-mile riders. Hospital to provide free classes
Community Hospital will host two programs. A grandparents class will cover new practices and recommendations for infant care from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at 800 MacArthur Blvd., Suite 30, Munster. TLC: The Lactation Clinic, a breastfeeding support group, meets from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at 901 MacArthur Blvd., Munster, North entrance of the Parkview tower, fourth floor.
