I have no doubt that FBI Director James Comey is a true professional, but his arrogance and righteousness were on full display when testifying. His testimony showed why he should be fired for making many mistakes in judgment.
Comey asks for a one-on-one with the president during the first meeting and then characterizes his next one-on-one as somewhat being cornered and that he was in shock after President Donald Trump said that he “hoped” the Michael Flynn matter could go away. Are you kidding me? If Comey felt that was inappropriate, he should have said something right then and there. He also admitted that he talked to Trump on numerous occasions after that alleged request and that Trump never asked him about it again. Wouldn’t that make one think it was just a “hope” instead of a directive?
Also, if he concluded that Trump wanted something from the Flynn comment, then why wouldn’t he feel the same way when former Attorney General Loretta Lynch told him not to use the word “investigation” when they discussed their pending email investigation? Wouldn’t he know what she really was asking for? After all, he is 56 and admitted he has lots of experience, right? Shouldn’t he have leaked that to the press and tried for a special prosecutor like he did with Trump? I guess not.
One last observation: Comey forgot to mention the near mutiny in the FBI when he decided not to prosecute Hillary Clinton for breaking the law with that server and classified documents. I guess he must have run out of time to discuss that.
