PNW summer wildflower nature walk
Purdue University Northwest, in partnership with the Coffee Creek Watershed Nature Preserve and the Nature Conservancy, will host a Summer Wildflower Foray nature walk and on-field workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Coffee Creek Watershed Nature Preserve, 2401 Village Point, Chesterton. Flint knapping program at National Lakeshore
Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore will host a flint knapping program from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Paul H. Douglas Center, 100 North Lake St., Gary. Native Americans like the Potawatomi Nation made all of their own tools and weapons. A park ranger will show the technique of making various types of points and explain the purpose of each shape. Household hazardous waste collection
Porter County Recycling and Waste Reduction will sponsor a household hazardous waste collection event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Portage High School, 6450 U.S. 6. Rotary Club to host Babapaloosa music festival
The Chesterton-Porter Rotary Club will host the third annual Babapaloosa music festival from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Hill Park, 775 Meridian Road, Valparaiso. The event lineup includes: All Good Things at 1 p.m.; Jerica Paliga, 2:30 p.m.; Township Train Wreck, 4 p.m.; Visions of Santana, 5:30 p.m.; and Corey Dennison, 7 p.m. All proceeds to support the Rotary Club and the See Change Foundation, an initiative that works to provide children in rural Nepal with education and other essentials. Senior Citizens Day at the fair offers healthy fun
Franciscan Health will sponsor Senior Citizens Day at the Lake Country Fair from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at 889 S. Court St., Crown Point. The program, in the Senior-Showcase Tent, will offer information regarding the Accountable Care Organization, Franciscan Senior Promise, Franciscan Senior Health and Wellness, Franciscan Insurance Services, outpatient services, stroke awareness and palliative care. Health screenings and information will be available for balance assessment, blood glucose, blood pressure, body fat analysis, early heart attack care, lung and breast health, nutrition and skin cancer. Other attractions will include refreshments, live music, an apple-peeling contest, giveaways and a chance to receive a coupon for a free foot screening. Women’s cancer support group to meet
Porter Regional Hospital will host Hope and Healing, a support group for women coping with cancer, from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fagen Pharmacy, 3400 N. Calumet Ave., Valparaiso. The group offers emotional support, information, education, guest speakers and the opportunity for individuals to share their concerns and feelings.
