If, as it appears, today’s cars and trucks are more computer than mechanical devices, I suggest that it’s time for federal legislation that requires all vehicles made in or imported into the United States to include a wireless “kill switch” by which police can immediately immobilize the vehicle.
This would not only quickly stop the mayhem that those who use cars and trucks as weapons create, it could lock the operator in the vehicle so that authorities can quickly apprehend him or her. While it may not stop those who are sophisticated enough to find a way to override such a system, it would certainly stop impulsive actions and may even make using a vehicle as a weapon less available.
