A SWAT team ended a standoff Monday evening at a building in the Chicago Housing Authority’s Cabrini Rowhouses development after officers confronted a man who may have had a gun, according to police.

Police were called to the 900 block of North Cambridge Avenue a little after 3:20 p.m. after a report of a person with a gun in the area, according to a police spokeswoman. The SWAT team entered the building Monday evening sometime after 6 p.m. and were able to end the standoff without the use of force, according to a police spokesman. Two people were detained.

When officers arrived, they saw a man who fled inside a building in the 500 block of West Delaware Place, the spokeswoman said. Several buildings in the area officially have Delaware Place addresses, but the street itself is less than a half-block long west of Cambridge.

A SWAT team was dispatched to the incident later in the afternoon, and the standoff was still going on a little before 6 p.m.
