Best game: Burgie scored St. Joseph’s only touchdown in a season-opening loss to Elmwood Park. He returned a punt for a touchdown in the second quarter.
Quote: “I realized the short kick and the over-pursuit of the Elmwood Park punt team,” Burgie said. “This allowed me to let the over-pursuit develop and use my speed to catch the short punt and put points on the board.”

Best game: On Aug. 26, Gradilla scored a goal against Glenbrook North and prevented a Spartans goal by clearing the ball off the goal line. His plays were the difference in a 2-1 victory for the Lions.
Quote: “Playing forward is new to me, but I think I am getting the hang of it,” Gradilla said.

Sport: Boys cross country
Best game: Garcia set a personal record when he finished the Downers South Quad in 17 minutes, 25 seconds on Aug. 23. He bettered his previous personal best by more than 3 minutes. At a meet where several Hornets set PRs, Garcia’s was the “most impressive,” according to the team. Garcia was Hinsdale South’s fifth runner, finishing 29th overall, and helped the team place third.
