Lincoln-Way Marching Band wins at Stagg Jamboree
The Lincoln-Way Marching Band took home top honors at the Amos Alonzo Stagg High School Marching Jamboree in Palos Hills on Saturday. The band was selected as grand champion for their overall top scores out of the 14 participating bands and received awards for general effect, music, color guard and percussion. The newly formed Lincoln-Way Marching Band includes 270 members from all three Lincoln-Way high schools. Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort will host the next area marching band competition Oct. 7, where the Lincoln-Way Marching Band will perform in exhibition.
Trinity Christian ranked among best in Midwest
Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights was ranked No. 20 among regional colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report. The annual report ranked 1,389 colleges and universities across a range of categories, including regional liberal arts colleges and national universities. Across the entire regional colleges category, 324 colleges are ranked in this year’s survey. The U.S. News rankings are based on qualitative and quantitative information in several categories, including peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, admissions selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving. Trinity stands among other institutions in the regional colleges category that offer a wide range of degree programs in the liberal arts and in fields such as business, education, and nursing. Candidate Pritzker headlines event in Homewood
Illinois gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker will attend a meet-and-greet event at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at Grape & Grai, 18031 Dixie Highway, Homewood. The free event is hosted by Action for a Better Tomorrow, a grass-roots, nonpartisan advocacy group and is presented as an opportunity to learn more about Pritzker’s ideas, vision and policies. Medicare seminar set in Orland Township
Orland Township will present a free seminar, Everything You Need to Know About Medicare, from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 5 at the Orland Township Activity Center, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. This seminar will cover all aspects of Medicare, including enrollment periods, Medicare Part A & B benefits, deductibles and benefit periods, Part D prescription drug plans, assignment/nonassignment, home health care/hospice care, skilled nursing facilities, managed care, supplemental/medigap insurance policies, advantage plans, low-income programs and more.
