Miller Beach to host golf outing fundraiser
Miller Beach Arts and Creative District will host a Golf Outing Fundraiser Monday at Innsbrook Country Club, 6701 Taft St., Merrillville. Registration and lunch will be from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by an 18-hole scramble at 12:30 p.m. A Cash bar and dinner reception will begin at 6 p.m. There will be a silent auction and live music. Temporary street closure in Hobart

East Chicago Public Library is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Library Card Sign Up Month by waiving the fee to get a library card all month. County-wide discussions to help shape the region
Through the support of Knight Foundation, Legacy Foundation has launched On the Table, a county-wide initiative for residents to have a mealtime conversation in their school, organization, church or office about the future of the region and their vision for improving Lake County. Following the discussions, participants will provide key takeaways and feedback through a survey. Legacy Foundation will use this information to help guide their strategic planning and funding. On the Table will take place Tuesday, with more than 30 sites hosting discussions. The 14th annual Active Living Faire at Wolf Lake featuring a bike-a-thon and a walk-a-thon to raise funds for non-profit organizations, will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 30 at the Environmental Education Center, 2405 Calumet Ave., Hammond. In the afternoon, the event will be held from 1:30-4 p.m. near Shelter 2, William Powers State Fish and Wildlife Area, 126th Place and Avenue O, Chicago. The bike-a-thon will follow a 10-mile course. All participants will be required to wear helmets. The walk-a-thon will be an 8K or five miles. Organized to promote health and fitness and the Wolf Lake watershed, the event is hosted by the Association for the Wolf Lake Initiative (AWLI) and is free to the public. St. Anthony Village gala tickets available
The St. Anthony Village and Hospice Franciscan Communities’ Dinner Dance will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Hellenic Cultural Center, 8000 Madison St., Merrillville. This year’s theme is Diamonds and Denim-A Night of Glitz and Giving, and will feature music from the band Together, as well as raffles, baskets and prizes. Association offers grant money for Lake County teachers
The Lake County Retired Teachers Association is offering grant money for active teachers in the public schools of Lake County for the 2017-18 school year. Grants range from $200 to $500, with a total of $2,000 to be awarded. Any active Lake County public school teacher can apply. Deadline for application is Sept. 30. South Shore Line adds stops Bears home games schedule
To accommodate Northwest Indiana residents traveling to Bears home games, some South Sore Line trains will make additional stops. For games on Oct. 22, Nov. 12, Nov. 19, Dec. 3 and Dec. 24, westbound trains 502, 504 and 606 will stop at the 18th Street Station so riders can get to the Bears game starting at noon. The trains are scheduled to arrive at 9:06 a.m., 10:09 a.m. and 11:03 a.m., respectively. Eastbound train 507 will leave 18th Street at 4:49 p.m. For the Bears’ night game Oct. 9, westbound train 20 will stop at 18th Street at 6:07 p.m., and eastbound train 123 will return at 11:06 p.m. More information is at mysouthshoreline.com.

The Ivy Tech Foundation will present scholarships totaling approximately $42,000 at its 16th annual Chancellors’ Scholarship Fundraising Event, scheduled for Oct. 6 at Avalon Manor, 3550 E. U.S. Highway 30, Merrillville. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception for scholarship recipients, followed by dinner at 6:45 p.m. In addition, Ivy Tech Community College’s local campuses will honor their Benefactor of the Year, the Leonard J. and Irene Brown Foundation, Inc.
