Regarding a Daily Southtown article about the Grand Old Party aiming to put their power to use: With Donald Trump as president, Republicans face enormous pressure to score wins after six years of blocking most proposals by former President Barack Obama. Yet, some people state that Obama didn’t fulfill his promises. How could he when his hands were tied? Also, U.S. House Republicans initially voted to remove the Office of Congressional Ethics, the independent body to investigate allegations of misconduct by lawmakers, after several bribery and corruption scandals sent members to prison. What’s taking place in the Republican U.S. Congress is wheeling and dealing. They’re doing everything to make Trump look good. Congratulations, America. Good luck. We need it.

Unlike the airlines, Amtrak doesn’t overbook trips and then select already-seated people to kick them off, making them surrender their seats to company employees. Amtrak passengers have leg room and views out the window and can get up and walk to the dining car or snack car on the train. They don’t annoy residents living near terminals with the roaring noise of their engines.
Reading a Tuesday Speak Out writer who says he’s a Democrat but hates the soda tax and he or she won’t vote for Toni Preckwinkle in the next election. Thank you Democrats. All they do is raise, raise, raise our taxes. Time to vote every Democrat out.
Judy feels, “we do need an experienced person in politics.” She evidently feels (President Donald) Trump lacks that. I’d point out, though, that it seems “politicians” think party first, then themselves (re-election), then maybe us and our country. President Trump is just the opposite. In spite of all the pluses he’s achieved in just 8 months, all of Congress (some Republicans too) are against his succeeding. Face it, they just don’t want the voters to realize that “experience” isn’t a necessary prerequisite for the presidency. That should apply to any elected office. “Establishment politicians” only want their “gravy-train” to keep rolling.

Ninety-eight percent of murders by guns are committed by males. If that percentage held true for any other group, be it religious, ethnic, economic or whatever, we would be demanding that that group be denied gun ownership. Too many males are obviously not able to handle the responsibility of gun ownership. If males want to hunt or shoot for sport, they should go to a gun range or gun club to do so. Or, perhaps, they should have to ask permission to use guns owned by their wives and mothers.
