An Aurora man is facing several weapons charges after police responded to reports of an armed man standing in the 0-99 block of North Broadway in Aurora.
Jarreau Harvey, 35, 600 block of North Randall Street, has been charged with being an armed habitual criminal, a Class X felony; as well as one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, police said.
According to police, an off-duty, out-of-town officer saw Harvey standing with a group of people outside a barber shop when he displayed a handgun and pointed it at a passing vehicle at about 6:09 p.m. Oct. 18. The out-of-town officer called police, and when an Aurora officer responded, Harvey and the men outside the shop allegedly ran.
At that point, officers located Harvey and asked him to put his hands up, police said.
Police found no weapon on Harvey, but said they located a handgun next to the squad car where Harvey had been waiting.
