Cold temperatures didn’t stop 400 to 500 people, most in costume, from coming to downtown Clarendon Hills Saturday for the annual Halloween Walk.

The event was sponsored by the Clarendon Hills Chamber of Commerce and had participation from most of the downtown businesses, which were stops for trick-or-treating.

“It was cold, but it didn’t stop a lot of people from coming out and having a good time,” said Laura Marquardt, chamber of commerce president. “Most of the kids were in costume, and there also were some adults and pets wearing costumes, including a dachshund with a jockey costume, where the jockey moved every time the dog moved.”

The downtown was decked out for Halloween after the annual window painting on storefronts Friday afternoon, giving children a chance to draw their favorite Halloween pictures.

The event came just days after the chamber’ last farmers market date of the year, which didn’t fully open because Farmer Mike was sick. However, there were still doughnuts and fresh meats available.

The next big event for the chamber of commerce is the Dec. 1 Christmas Walk, which begins at 6 p.m. with a tree lighting ceremony at Village Hall and continues with a variety of activities and a visit from Santa.
