Sport: Girls tennis
Best game: Bacalla came in fourth in singles at the Class AA state tournament for the second straight year. Bacalla won her first four matches at state to reach the semifinals and she didn’t drop a set along the way. Of those eight sets, she won six of them either 6-0 or 6-1.
Quote: “You can see how she carries herself, and that all the other top players in the state want to give her a hug (after her third-place match) and hang out with her,” Vikings coach Andy Klamm said. “You can see what kind of kid she is, and that’s irreplaceable for a program.”

Season stats: Horkavi, the lone Maine South boys golfer to qualify for state, finished tied for 81st at the Class 3A state meet on Oct. 14 after shooting a 163. He shot an 82 on the first day and an 81 on the second at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington.
Best game: Horkavi advanced to state by carding a 5-over-par 76 at the New Trier Sectional at Winnetka Golf Club on Oct. 9. He finished tied for 11th in the individual standings and he tied for second among players not on a team that qualified for state.
Name: Alena Sirichotiratana
Year in school: Junior
School: Niles West
Sport: Girls golf
Season stats: After shooting a 91 on the first day of the Class AA state tournament, Sirichotiratana rebounded with an 82 on the second day to finish tied for 87th on Oct. 14 in Decatur. She was in 96th place after Oct. 13. Sirichotiratana was the sole athlete from Niles Township High Schools District 219 at state.
Best game: Sirichotiratana secured a state berth by shooting a 77, which was good for a tie for 10th in the individual standings, at the Wheaton Academy Sectional. The tournament was played at Pheasant Run on Oct. 9.
