Highlights: Murrihy, a Memphis recruit led the RedHawks, who beat Marian Catholic, Mother McAuley, Crystal Lake Central and Minooka to win the program’s first Class 8A state title.
Quote: “We played big-time hitters,” Marist coach Jordan Vidovic said. “We put Molly up against all of them. We did it against Minooka, we did it against Marian, we did it against McAuley. She has been one of the top blocking setters I’ve seen in high school, period. She is 100 percent the best setter in the state.”

Highlights: Idowu scored 20 points against Thornton, 26 against Chicago Christian, 30 against Eisenhower and 20 in a 59-57 victory over Thornton that clinched the Bobby Bolton Classic title for the Bulldogs.
Quote: “Obviously she can score, but she likes to get everybody involved,” Richards coach Jeff Kortz said. “She played great for us last year and she picked up where she left off. She worked really hard over the summer. She just loves the game of basketball.”

Position: Quarterback
Highlights: Morrissey led the Griffins to the Class 8A state finals. In three games he was 19-for-26 passing for 308 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 223 yards and two TDs.
Quote: “He has been fantastic,” East coach Rob Zvonar said. “He’s a dual threat. Opponents always respected his ability to run. But he can throw the ball, and he’s shown that. He’s made great decisions. He’s a smart kid, a leader for us.”
