This is my first year with an Affordable Care Act exchange health insurance policy. My unsubsidized 2017 monthly premium for a single insured with a bronze policy is $825. My annual deductible is $7,000. I just received 2018 information from the insurance company. The monthly premium is increasing to $922. There are other changes, one of which stands out.

The insurance company’s letter states:

“In 2018, your in-network coinsurance will change to 50 percent from 40 percent. The coinsurance is the percentage of the cost that you must pay for a covered service. It applies after you meet your deductible.”

How is this affordable? How is this worth $11,000 per year?
