Naperville Park District holiday schedule
Some Naperville Park District facilities will be closed or operating on a different schedule for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
The administration building, 320 W. Jackson Ave., will be closed Monday and Tuesday and Jan. 1. It will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Dec. 29.
The Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, 305 W. Jackson Ave., and the 95th Street Center, 2244 W. 95th St., will be open until noon for scheduled programs Sunday and Dec. 31. It will be closed Monday and Tuesday and Jan. 1 and open Wednesday through Dec. 30 for scheduled programs only.
The Fort Hill Activity Center, 20 Fort Hill Drive, will be open 7 a.m. to noon Sunday but will not have open gym or child care. It is closed Monday. The activity center will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 but with no open gym or child care.
The Knoch Knolls Nature Center, 320 Knoch Knolls Road, will be closed Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. It is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 30.
The Sportsman’s Park Trapshooting Facility is open from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 31.
Everyday Hero Holiday Blood Drive
The Naperville Fire Department is sponsoring the Everyday Hero Holiday Blood Drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Safety Town, 1320 Aurora Ave.
To donate, participants must have an ID. Appointments can be made by calling 877-543-3768 or at www.lifesource.org by searching Group Code “360G.” Walk-in donors are also welcome.
Donors will receive an ugly sweater T-shirt and a voucher for a free large pizza from Papa John’s.
The Fire Department is encouraging residents to donate blood since donations often drop off between Thanksgiving and the New Year. Each donation can help save three lives, according to a fire department news release.
Forest preserve workday in Naperville
Volunteers can help improve Whalon Lake from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, Jan. 7, as part of a workday organized by the Forest Preserve District of Will County.
Volunteers are needed to help cut down invasive species and remove brush from the preserve to help prepare it for spring.
The Forest Preserve District has scheduled wintertime work throughout its preserves from January through March.

Park District playground open house
The Naperville Park District will host an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at the Fort Hill Activity Center, 20 Fort Hill Drive, for residents to help select new playground equipment.
Residents can look at several playground designs for its 2018 playground renovation projects. Five parks are scheduled to be renovated, including Century Farms Park, Farmington Park, Pembroke Park, University Heights Park and Yorkshire Manor Park.
No formal presentation will be given. Children are welcome to give their input on playground equipment.
Will County election judges needed
The Will County clerk’s office is looking for election judges for the March 20 general primary election.
Those interested must be U.S. citizens and a registered voter or a high school senior. They must be able to speak, read and write English and know math. They cannot be a precinct committeeman or a candidate on the ballot.

New engineering programs at NCC
North Central College will offer three new engineering programs.
Students can earn four-year bachelor of science degrees in electrical, mechanical and computer engineering starting in the 2018-19 academic year.
According to the college, the engineering classes will use a lecture-lab approach where students will develop a solution to a problem, write a report and deliver a presentation.
