Lincoln-Way Marching Band selected for 2019 Rose Parade
Only nine high school marching bands will perform in the 130th annual Tournament of Roses Parade before the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, 2019, in Pasadena, California. One of those bands will be from Lincoln-Way high schools. To help pay for the trip, band members are selling chocolate bars through September. “Every candy bar sold gets the student one step closer to the Rose Parade,” said band director Cary Ruklic. Fishing club nets toys for kids with cancer
Fish Tales Fishing Club in Oak Forest recently netted a full truck of toys and $150 in gift cards for the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation during the club’s annual Christmas Party in Chicago Ridge. The Orland Park-based non-profit organization provides comfort and distraction from painful treatments to children and teens diagnosed with cancer by providing a toy or gift card in 52 hospitals nationwide. Fish Tales Fishing Club is an organization of men and women who meet monthly to discuss fishing techniques, conduct seminars about local lakes and to support the South Suburban Special Recreation Association by organizing weekly fishing trips throughout the summer. Orland Township seeks singing seniors for contest
Orland Township officials are seeking residents 55 or older who want to show off their singing skills by auditioning for the 6th annual Orland Township Senior American Idol, coming in February. Contestants will sing a 2 or 3 minute song of their choice without accompaniment for a panel of judges. At the end of the evening, the top 16 contestants will be chosen to compete in the finals in May. Auditions will take place at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Township Office, 14807 S. Workforce Center continues weekly job fairs
The Workforce Center of Will County will hold its first weekly job fair of the new year from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 3. Among the positions employers will be looking to fill are CNC machinist trainee, forklift operators, home care aide/homemaker, materials handlers, school bus driver, transportation aide, and warehouse associates. The events allow job seekers to meet with several employers at once at the Workforce Center of Will County, 2400 Glenwood Ave., Suite 100, Joliet. More information is at www.will.works.
