Northwest Indiana Green Drinks to meet
Nathanael Pilla, botanist and project coordinator for Save the Dunes, will discuss aquatic gardening and the importance of plants in ponds, rivers and lakes at the next Northwest Indiana Green Drinks meeting, 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Shoreline Brewery, 208 Wabash St., Michigan City. Credit Union offers college scholarships
Members Advantage Credit Union is offering three college scholarships to qualifying high school seniors and to students in their first or second year in college. Available scholarships include the following: The Gail Walker Memorial Scholarship, $1,000 to a graduating high school senior, college freshman or sophomore with academic achievement; The Leona Bruno Scholarship, $1,000 to a graduating high school senior with scholastic achievement; and The Learn to Earn Scholarship awarded to two college students working a minimum of 20 hours per week in the amount of $500 each. Homemakers Association offers scholarships
The Lake County Extension Homemakers Association is accepting applications for the Lucile Smith Memorial Scholarship, which is offered annually. In addition, applications for the Indiana Extension Homemakers Association Career-Advancement Scholarship also are available. To be eligible for the Lucile Smith Memorial Scholarship, applicants must be an Indiana resident 21 years of age or older, and a resident of Lake County for at least six months. To be eligible for the Indiana Extension Homemaker Association Scholarship, applicants must be a homemaker 25 years of age or older, and a resident of Indiana. Both Scholarships require that the applicant has been admitted or cleared for admission to an academic or vocational school that is state licensed or accredited. Preference will be given to a person studying at an undergraduate level. Lucile Smith Memorial Scholarship applications must be received by March 1. Indiana Extension Homemakers Association Scholarship applications must be postmarked by March 15. Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore programs
Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore will host two programs this weekend. Birding with the Indiana Audubon Society will run from 8-10 a.m. Saturday. Meet at the Visitor Center, 1215 North State Road 49, Chesterton, and carpool to the birding spot of the month. Audubon Society Executive Director Brad Bumgardner will lead the program. A morning of stewardship will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s Chellberg Farm, Highway 20 and Mineral Springs Road, Porter. Help survey maple trees that are part of a national sugar maple research study. No previous experience is necessary. Dress for the weather and be prepared to walk in the winter woods.
