A 44-year-old man was fatally shot early Thursday in Gary, police said.
Officers responded shortly after 1:30 a.m. to a call of shots fired near the 1400 block of East 49th Avenue, Lt. Dawn Westerfield, police spokeswoman, said.
Police found Danny Raye Leake, of Gary, on the ground, and the Lake County coroner’s office declared him dead at the scene, officials said.
Leake died of gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide by the coroner’s office.
