An Aurora apartment is uninhabitable following a fire on the city’s West Side.
The fire broke out a little before 7 p.m. Thursday at a three-story apartment building in the 700 block of Huntington Drive.
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke on the second and third floor of the building, according to a press release from the Aurora Fire Department.
Upon making entry, crews found fire in the kitchen of one of the apartments. It took 13 firefighters approximately 10 minutes to fully extinguish the fire, according to the release. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
The apartment was deemed uninhabitable, fire officials said. The family will be staying with friends and family. The total damage to the apartment is estimated at $10,000.
The cause of the fire was flammable items being stored inside the oven when it was accidentally turned on, Aurora Fire Department officials said.
