As Lincolnwood School District 74 continues the multi-million dollar renovation on its three-school campus, next up is the gymnasium at Lincoln Hall Middle School after the school board approved bids.
Lincoln Hall’s East Gym will get a makeover starting this summer, marking the third and final phase of improvements at the school, officials said. This latest project would bring to a close over three years of construction work on the school building.
The School District 74 school board approved construction contracts at the Feb. 1 meeting that had previously gone out to bid.
“Lincoln Hall’s East Gym renovation will expand opportunities by creating a formal auditorium space and multimedia production center for students,” school district officials said in a news release.
Officials said the remodeled space will be available as an auditorium to schools within the district for events such as concerts, the annual spring play, science fair presentations and to host other curricular and extracurricular events.
The venue is also expected to be open for the Lincolnwood community to use, and it would be the village’s only public performance space, the release states.
Phases I and II of the project brought newly constructed, multi-grade science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) classrooms, as well as renovated science labs and library to the school.
Fine arts facilities were also expanded, including orchestra, band, art, music, global studies and food science classrooms. The renovations have also made the main entrance to the middle school ADA accessible, added a new student fitness center, health classroom, updated gymnasium floor and hallways.
The building rehab came after School District 74 created a school building improvement plan. The multi-phase work was previously estimated to cost under $24 million.
The school district moved to renovate the existing school building after taxpayers rejected – by referendum – a plan to tear the building down and construct a brand new one.
