Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera will miss ‘few weeks’ due to injury, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho revealed Friday.
“Ander Herrera is out. I don’t know the final diagnosis but I know he’ll be out for a few weeks,” said Mourinho at a press conference.
“I don’t know how many is few -two, three, four, five, six weeks- I don’t know, but a few weeks for sure.”
Herrera returned to the starting lineup on Wednesday in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 match against Sevilla, but suffered the injury in the 18th minute, and was forced off the pitch.
After the scoreless draw with Sevilla, Mourinho said the club’s medical department had assured him Herrera “was 100 percent,” and did nothing to protect him.
“The way he played and pressed, we though he was fine, but we were wrong, and now we have seen he wasn’t 100 percent,” said the Portuguese manager.
Manchester United will host Chelsea this Sunday, in the most important matchup of matchday 28 in the Premier League.
