Anthony Nasharr of Hinsdale and his wife, Maria, are members of the Rush Associates Board, which acts as ambassadors for the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. They will host a casino night May 4 to raise money for the Autism Assessment, Research and Treatment & Services Center at Rush.
Q: How did you get involved with Rush?
A: My wife was on the board in the ’90s, but it dwindled since then. In 2003, she and three other women were asked to reconstitute it. There are about 150 members now. We raise money for the hospital in a fun way. At the casino night, people play for chips, and cash them in for tickets to raffles with prizes, such as trips and golf outings. Previous casino nights supported the neonatal intensive care unit, children’s cancer programs and veterans.
Q: Do you have any children?
A: We have a daughter Alexandra, who is married and lives in Pilsen, a son AJ and a daughter Faith, who are a junior and freshman at Central.
Q: Where did you grow up?
A: Yorkshire Woods in Oak Brook
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: I like long-distance motorcycle rides. In August, I went on a 17-day, 7,700-mile trip from Salt Lake City to Alaska. It took us six days to get through Canada, then we went over to Fairbanks and Denali. There were five of us, five old guys. We stayed at ramshackle motels and logging camps. The longest motorcycle trip I made before that was six days and 2,500 miles.
Q: Was that your favorite vacation?
A: I would say vacations with the family are my favorite. In August, we went on a 20-day trip to Italy and France. I enjoy seeing my kids exposed to what the world is.
Q: Do you have a favorite local restaurant?
A: Il Poggiolo and Vistro in Hinsdale.
Q: Do you have a favorite movie?
A: I like all the James Bond movies.
Q: Who is your favorite Bond?
A: The new guy, Daniel Craig.
Q: What’s the last book you read that you would recommend?
A: I like to read history. I’m reading a good book called, ‘The History of the Peloponnesian Wars,’ by Thucydides.
