The Global Center for Education at North Central College will show the film “To Damascus with Love,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, in Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St.

Riad Ismat, Syria’s former minister of culture and ambassador to Pakistan, will introduce the film.

Student-composed musical

The musical “Almost Living” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, to Saturday, May 5, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, in North Central College’s Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St.

The musical was written and directed by student Juan Munoz.

Shine on Sunset Run

Naperville North High School will be hosting the 2nd annual Shine On Sunset Run for Mental Health Awareness Friday, May 4, on the school’s track, 899 N. Mill St.

The gates will open at 6:15 p.m. with the two-mile run and walk beginning around sunset at 7:45 p.m.

The event also will feature yard games, music, food and other activities. Local vendors will speak about mental health resources available in the community. Proceeds will be donated to NAMI of DuPage, which offers support for individuals with mental illnesses and their families.

Family nature hike

Families can join a naturalist on a morning hike to look for wildflowers and wildlife at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Knoch Knolls Nature Center, 320 S. Knoch Knolls Road.

The hike, which is for families with children 5 and older, is free but advanced registration is required.

Used book donation drive

The AAUW will host its annual used book donation drive from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 1105 Catalpa Lane.

Donations of hardcover and paperback books as well as music and movies will be accepted. Encyclopedias, textbooks, condensed books or VHS tapes will not be accepted.

Volunteers will help unload, and tax receipts will be provided.

The used book sale is set for June 6 to June 9 at Washington Junior High School. The proceeds will benefit scholarships and programs for women and girls.

Multiple sclerosis walk

The annual Walk MS is set for Sunday, May 6, at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion, 912 Honorary Sindt Memorial Court.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the walk steps off at 9 a.m.

Proceeds benefit services and research for people affected with multiple sclerosis.

Makin’ Strides for Strays walkathon

A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter will host its 25th annual Makin’ Strides for Strays walkathon Sunday, May 6, at Naperville Central High School, 440 Aurora Ave.

Registration for the 2.5-mile walk begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m.

The event also will feature music, snacks for walkers, face painting and canine competitions. Proceeds benefit homeless animals.

Naper Settlement will host the Happy Illinois Bicentennial Birthday Bash from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the Century Memorial Chapel at the settlement, 523 S. Webster St.
