France national team coach Didier Deschamps said Saturday the Ballon d’Or should end up in the hands of one of the players he coached to the World Cup trophy in Russia but refrained from naming anyone specifically.
“I hope a French player wins the Ballon d’Or. It would be something good,” said Deschamps.
Deschamps acknowledges that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo “will always be in the mix for what they represent,” with Neymar right there with them.
He considers his players deserve the award “for what they did in the World Cup, because they won it,” without saying which one specifically.
