The sun was an intermittent visitor during Wilmette Summerfest 2018, but the two-day music and entertainment event was a success nonetheless, according to Patty Evans, president of the Wilmette-Kenilworth Chamber of Commerce.
“The crowd was really great during the day, and at night the beer garden worked out very well, along with the music on the (village) green,” Evans said. “Because Summerfest is so weather dependent, that was something we hoped would go well, and it did. Even though it was spitting rain at some points, it was lovely.”
The annual festival, organized by the Chamber in partnership with the village of Wilmette and the Wilmette Park District, had events scheduled in several business districts Friday and Saturday, but Saturday’s attractions focused on the village center.
In addition to main stage music, Summerfest provided family entertainment and performances on a children’s stage.
“We had some new things this year, including a water station where people could fill their water bottles, that was courtesy of Go Green Wilmette,” she said. “Go Green also had a bike station where you could park your bike, since they were encouraging people to bike here rather than drive.”
Evans said other popular attractions were food trucks, and several of downtown Wilmette’s restaurants.
“Summerfest always brings people out to the community, walking through and enjoying the sights, and coming in to stores to shop. It’s a great event,” she said.
