The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced Wednesday the names of about 16,000 semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring.

Semifinalists include the following area students.

Benet Academy: Catherine M. Pace of Oak Brook

Fenwick High School: Elizabeth Rogowski of Hinsdale

Hinsdale Central High School: Chelsea J. Biala, Thomas H. Clark, Catherine Collins, Lucy M. Fischer, Jessy Huang, Kevin T. Jin, Alyssa Lee, Daniel J. Leung, Nicholas Lynch, Selena L. Ren, Max Schwalb, Ava M. Severts, Daniel Skora, Jackson Stermer and Lauren E. Witt

Hinsdale South High School: Kaitlyn Hurka, Habib Rehman

Lyons Township High School: Julia R. Fischer, Katharine G. Hart, Michael S. Ibrahim, Josephine Kelpsas and Jason J. Kuehnle
