Hazel Crest police officers are in self-quarantine today after they learned they had contact with a resident with coronavirus, or Covid-19.
Police were notified Friday the resident had tested positive for the virus and was being hospitalized.
The resident had contact with the officers prior to developing symptoms, police said.
The affected officers have not shown any symptoms of infection, according to a press release.
No other police staff were reported to have had exposure.
The latest number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Illinois is 64, mostly in Chicago and Cook County.
This is the first case confirmed in the south suburbs.
This is a developing story; check back for updates.
