
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the suburbs continued to climb over the last week, more than doubling in some communities, health department data shows.
Out of all the cases reported by the Cook County Health Department and the cases reported by the Skokie, Evanston, Oak Park and Stickney Township health departments, Skokie had the highest number of confirmed cases as of Tuesday: 168. Glenview had 131 cases and Evanston had 128, also among the highest.
Skokie has the most reported cases of COVID-19 within suburban Cook County, according to the data.
The Skokie Health Department reported that seven residents, all over the age of 60, had died after testing positive for COVID-19. Data from the village’s health department indicates that the number of confirmed cases increased by 95% in the week between March 31 and April 7.
The Evanston Health and Human Services Department reported two deaths within the city.
The Cook County Department of Public Health reports data for all municipalities in the county with the exception of Chicago, Skokie, Evanston, Oak Park and Stickney Township, which have their own local health departments.
Within the Cook County health department’s jurisdiction, there were a total of 3,612 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of April 7, and 109 deaths.
The following shows the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases within several North and West suburban Cook County communities as of April 7, with a comparison to the cases reported a week earlier on March 31:
Des Plaines: 111, up from 44
Oak Park: 69, up from 36
Park Ridge: 58, up from 25
Elmwood Park: 40, up from 12
Niles: 40, up from 10
Morton Grove: 35, up from 16
Lincolnwood: 32, up from 14
River Grove: 19, up from 7
Northlake: 17, up from under 5 cases
Harwood Heights: 14, up from 7
Norridge: 14, up from 7
Rosemont: 6, up from under 5 cases
River Forest: 9, up from 5
