Gary police to participate in Drive Sober enforcement
The Gary Police Department will participate in the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement mobilization. Now through Labor Day, officers will be conducting overtime patrols, seeking out drunk drivers and showing zero tolerance for anyone driving impaired. The Department recommends designating a sober driver or using a ride-share service, public transportation or a taxi. Additionally, don’t let someone get behind the wheel if that person has been drinking. Motorists that encounter a drunk driver on the road are encouraged to call 911. IU Northwest’s CURE offers non-credit online classes
Indiana University Northwest’s Center for Urban and Regional Excellence (CURE) offers non-credit classes online for people of all ages. CURE is enrolling now for Fundamental Courses offering classes such as Speed Spanish, Accounting Fundamentals, Introduction to Microsoft Excel and A to Z Grant Writing. Courses start new every month and include both instructor-led and self-paced tutorials with 24/7 access. The cost varies; classes are for teens, young adults and adults. Hospital offers free support group
Porter Regional Hospital will host a free Ostomy support group from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Community Room of the hospital, 85 E. US Highway 6, Valparaiso. The meeting is open to anyone living with any type of Ostomy including Ileostomy, Urostomy, Colostomy and Koch Pouch and their loved ones. PNW faculty to present lecture-discussion series
Faculty members from Purdue University Northwest (PNW) will present “Race, Racism, Anti-racism,” a series of interdisciplinary lectures and discussions about race relations and racism in America, during the academic year of 2020-21. The fall 2020 portion of this series offers four lecture-discussion sessions led by PNW faculty members from the College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences. All sessions will be moderated by Karen Bishop Morris, associate professor of English. All events are free, virtual and open to the public.
