A closed restaurant on the far East Side of Aurora will resurface soon as a new, similar place.

The former Saddle Up Saloon, 4440 Ogden Ave., near the Fox Valley Mall, is looking to reopen as soon as next month as the Saddle Up @ Q restaurant.

The new restaurant, sports bar and entertainment venue will feature a full menu of entrees, appetizers, sandwiches, soup, pizza, salad and desserts.

“It’s more of an eatery,” said the owner of the new restaurant at a recent City Council Public Health, Safety and Transportation Committee meeting.

He has three other locations in Darien, Downers Grove and Lemont, and said they vary in style between having pool tables, live music and entertainment and mainly food. He also told aldermen the new restaurant will be similar to the old Saddle Up Saloon and that he is “not doing anything major inside.”

Work was going on inside the building recently, and the owner said he would like to open in the first week of October.

“It’s depending on how things are going with COVID right now,” he said.

Aldermen recommended creating a Class B liquor license for the establishment, which means it could sell liquor by the drink only, to be consumed on the premises. The liquor commissioner, who is the mayor, would actually issue the liquor license.

The City Council has placed the item on the consent agenda for Tuesday’s full council meeting.
