A mobile testing unit will provide free coronavirus testing this week in Crystal Lake and Barrington, according to the health departments in Lake and McHenry counties.
An Illinois Department of Public Health mobile testing unit will be at the Lippold Park Golf Center parking lot at 1251 Illinois Route 176 in Crystal Lake Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or while supplies last.
The testing unit will be at Barrington High School, 616 W. Main Street, on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or while supplies last.
Testing is free and open to all regardless of symptoms; participants must leave their name and phone number in order to receive results. Photo ID and proof of insurance are also helpful, according to health officials.
The mobile unit offers a drive-thru nasal swab test, so participants need to have a functioning car window, and they are advised that once their car is in line, participants are not allowed to exit their vehicle. There will be a walk-up option, too.
Only viral testing, which shows a current infection, is offered at the mobile site.

“We encourage our residents to take advantage of the mobile testing site or community-based testing sites and get tested right away if they are experiencing symptoms, or 5-7 days after being exposed to an infected person,” Lake County Health Department Executive Director Mark Pfister said. “Getting tested and cooperating with case investigators and contact tracers helps protect your friends and family.”
