Two Park Ridge Boy Scouts were recognized by the Park Ridge Park District recently for projects they completed at Wildwood Nature Center.
Ty Foss of Boy Scout Troop 76 and P.J Spagnolo of Troop 24 earned recognition during the Park Ridge Park Board’s Dec. 17 meeting for work they completed in order to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
Foss removed invasive, non-native plants from the rain garden area near the nature center, while Spagnolo was credited with raising donations and building children’s-size outdoor picnic tables.
“It is gratifying to us that we have young community members that choose to improve our parks,” said Park District Executive Director Gayle Mountcastle. “Every little bit helps us to not have to take care of something or improve something.”
“It was really nice to be able to provide something for my service project to the Nature Center, where I spent a lot of time when I was younger,” Foss said. “It was just a very humbling experience.”
Spagnolo noted that his project was a “great learning opportunity” for him.
Foss and Spagnolo were each awarded certificates of appreciation from the park district.
