I’d like to commend the party of fiscal conservatism for wasting $35 million of taxpayer money on the trashing of the Capitol and for disrupting the lives of thousands of National Guard who they piously thank for their military service. Mr. Sour Grapes Trump proved he can empty the National Mall more than once. He had to give America his finger on the way out.

I urge everyone to watch the videos of the breach of the Capitol by the so-called patriots. These videos clearly show the lawlessness that occurred as the criminals carried bats, batons and other weapons to beat and impose their intentions upon the security officials they claim to support. These are the very same ones that claim they are for law and order while shouting “Hang Mike Pence.” Are we supposed to believe they will honor our right to disagree with their actions or will we become the enemy?

I see many articles calling for the nation to heal. I see that Joe Biden’s inauguration theme is going to be “America United.” How will this happen when cancel culture and censorship is running rampant? Furthermore, I don’t see liberal politicians, actors, journalists or athletes extending an olive branch to the millions of Trump voters and nonvoters. Will Anderson Cooper on CNN embrace a conservative and call him brother? Will Katie Couric do the same, or Alec Baldwin? So far, I haven’t seen any visible sign of peace coming from people like them. So much for unity.

Like President Lincoln, President Biden will begin his presidency with a nation deeply divided. Lincoln, during his initial inaugural address, attempted to quell our divisions by reminding Americans that we are friends, not enemies, and that our “bonds of affection,” though strained, should not be broken. He spoke about his hope that the memories of our shared history will rise once again when “touched by the better angels of our nature.” Otherwise, rejection of majority rule will leave us with “anarchy and despotism.” I hope that Lincoln is right this time, and his admonishment taken to heart.
