Exhibit spotlights local teachers

Lubeznik Center for the Arts will host a new exhibit titled “Inspired / Inspire: A Group Show of Artworks from Michigan City Area Schools’ Art Educators” beginning Friday through April 30 in the NIPSCO Education Studio Gallery, 101 W. Second St., Michigan City. The exhibit highlights 11 visual arts educators from Michigan City’s elementary, middle and high schools. Works on display include painting, photography, drawing and sculpture. Artists included in this exhibit are Holly Beadles, Diane Grams, Samantha Rich, Erin Ledyard, Karen Maudlin, Julie Pitman, Sarah Quartuccio, Matthew Raney, Kelly Tokoly-Rothermel, Susanne Vigen and Cheri Whitler. Valparaiso Community Schools board opening

The Center Township Board of Porter County is seeking to fill openings on the Board of Education, Valparaiso Community Schools. Interested candidates must be at least 21 years of age and must reside within the physical boundaries of Center Township, Porter County. Applicants are asked to submit written information including name, address and telephone number along with the completed application by mail, email or in person to the Center Township Trustees office at 202 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, IN 46383. Application deadline is April 26. The Trustees office is open from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Monday thru Thursday. IU Northwest hosts conversation with education activist

Indiana University Northwest is hosting author, entrepreneur and higher education activist Roy Juarez Jr. from 11:30 to 1 p.m. on March 26 for a motivational seminar about why students should never let go of their dreams. The virtual event will take place on the Zoom video communications platform, and is free and open to all high school students. The conversation will focus on the importance of pursuing a college degree with an emphasis on themes for Latinx and African American students. Blood drive to benefit the Red Cross

A blood drive to benefit the American Red Cross will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 2 at Valparaiso City Hall, 166 Lincolnway. At each blood drive and donation center, Red Cross employees follow thorough safety protocols including wearing gloves, routinely wiping down donor-touched areas, using sterile collection sets for every donation and preparing the arm for donation with an aseptic scrub. Ivy Tech Business Honor Society inducts new members

The Kappa Beta Delta chapter at Ivy Tech Community College’s Lake County campus recently inducted 16 new members into its ranks during a virtual ceremony. Kappa Beta Delta, the international honor society for associate degree business schools, recognizes high-achieving scholars and encourages community service by those students. Students inducted are: Wesley James Cavinder, Joseph Kyle Collins, Mayra Vera Duran, Amanda Jane Edge, Bani Ismerai Galindo, Julyssa Gonzalez, Hannah Lynn Homoky, Jamiya Rose Hunter, Kylen Alani Matthews, David A Perez, Elizabeth Perez, Faith D Shelton, Alana Marie Stottlemire, Asha Akili Marie Walker, Sanaaiya Latrice West and Nalayah Dorothy Young. This year, community service projects by the Ivy Tech Lake County chapter focus on food insecurity in Northwest Indiana. Money raised at a drive-through fundraiser at Portillo’s Restaurant was donated to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, and proceeds from an upcoming drive-through fundraiser on March 26 at the Boston Market in Munster also will be donated to the Food Bank.
