Pass rusher Jaelan Phillips had a rough start to his college career. Phillips first enrolled at UCLA, starting four games as a freshman before injuring his ankle and suffering a concussion. Phillips left UCLA after his sophomore year and announced he was retiring from football.
He changed his mind and transferred to Miami, where he excelled. Phillips finished the 2020 season with 15.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks, earning second-team All-American honors.
NFL analyst Lance Zierlein compares Phillips to NFL defensive end Maxx Crosby. “Phillips might have the combination of length and athleticism that would allow teams to look at him with a hand on the ground or standing depending on his weight,” Zierlein wrote. “Adding play strength will be important so that he can stack it up when setting the edge as a run defender in the league.”
