Vegetable Field Day at Pinney Purdue Ag Center
Purdue Extension is hosting a Vegetable Field Day for farmers and home gardeners from 5 to 8 p.m. CST on Tuesday at 11402 S. County Line Road, Wanatah. Participants will tour vegetable research trials and learn about soil health and vegetable production. There will be equipment demos, a Q & A with featured speakers and an optional dinner following the program.

Annual Chesterton Art Fair
The 62nd Annual Chesterton Art Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Dogwood Park, 1100 North and 23rd Street, Chesterton. Daily admission is $5 per person, or $7 for the weekend. Children ages 12 and under are free. Parking is free as well. The event will include more than 60 juried artists from several states working in many different mediums. Children are invited to express their creativity at the Children’s Art Booth. Kids will be able to choose from a variety of arts and crafts that can be created onsite and taken home. Proceeds from the fair will help to provide art education programming for the coming year. Booze and Tattoos event for seniors
Seniors age 60 and older are invited to a Booze and Tattoos event from 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 13 in the Union Lounge at the Hammond Sportsplex, 6630 Indianapolis Blvd., Hammond. Music festival discount available for first responders, teachers
Porter County Parks and Recreation is offering a discount for Prairie Magic Music Festival tickets to first responders and teachers. The music festival will be held Aug. 14 at the Sunset Hill Farm County Park Amphitheater, 775 Meridian Road. First responders and teachers displaying a work ID or badge are eligible for two-for-one ticket pricing at the gate on the day of the festival. Gates opens at Noon; the festival begins at 1 p.m. Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 at the gate. Children 12 and younger are free, and students with a valid student ID are $10. Field Day offers crop information for farmers
The 2021 Pinney Purdue Field Day will be held on Aug. 18 at 11402 County Line Road, Wanatah. Registration and exhibitor booths will open at 7:30 a.m. CDT in the new machinery shed on the east side of County Line Road. The Field Day program will begin at 8:15 a.m. CDT with Dr. Michael Langemeier, associate director for the Center for Commercial Agriculture, who will discuss the outlook for commodity markets. Field tours will begin at 9:20 a.m. Participants will have opportunities to get updates on current ag production issues, visit with neighbors and fellow producers as well as ag supply and service exhibitors, and enjoy a pork chop lunch provided by Birky Family Farms of Kouts. A twilight program is planned on the same day for those unable to attend the morning programs. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and twilight presentations start at 6 p.m. CDT. Jim Camberato, Purdue Extension fertility specialist, will discuss key points for nutrient management. Phil Woolery, Extension Educator in Starke and Pulaski Counties, will discuss minibulk regulations for farmers and agribusiness. Shirley Heinze Land Trust to host ‘Nature in the Arts’ events
Shirley Heinze Land Trust will host “Nature in the Arts” with two free art events. A “Paint Out” event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 14 at Lydick Bog Nature Preserve, 25898 US 20, South Bend. Plein-air painters from the Northern Indiana Pastel Society will be on site to discuss their process as they capture the scenery on canvas. Between 10:30 am and 2:30 pm, the South Bend Museum of Art will provide materials and instruction for the public to help paint an illustrated banner to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Shirley Heinze Land Trust. A musical performance by The Music Village will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Art Barn School of Art instructor Lee Bauman will lead a walk-up monotype printing workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 21 at Meadowbrook Nature Preserve, 109 W. 700 North, Valparaiso. Participants will learn how to create a monotype print inspired by the plants found in the gardens. They will be able to create and take home their own prints. Both events are open to the public.
