A major sewer project should be underway yet this year in the 4th Ward on Aurora’s West Side.
The City Council recently awarded an almost $1 million contract for a sewer separation project to Plano-based Performance Construction & Engineering, LLC. It will be along Kensington Place and Marseillaise Place, and will involve installing new storm sewer, taking it off the combined sewer system.
City officials said there have been several basement back-ups during storms in that neighborhood. Also, the city is in the midst of a long-term control plan, ordered by the Environmental Protection Agency, to separate sewers in the older parts of town.
The city received eight bids for the project. Performance Construction & Engineering was the low bidder, and has successfully completed similar projects for the city in the past.
The total project amount of $987,981 is budgeted for in 2021, officials said.
Traffic will be detoured to adjacent blocks off both Kensington and Marseillaise during the project. City officials said the increase in traffic on the adjacent neighboring blocks will be temporary and negligible.
Construction next to Aurora University is to be completed in a way to limit the disturbance to the students, city officials said.
Water and sanitary service will not be interrupted during the project, according to city officials.
