A Zion man shot another man Tuesday and then attempted to evade police by hiding in a bathroom inside the village library, police said.

Rickey Hines, 31, of Zion, was arrested by police inside the Zion-Benton Public Library, according to police, who say they also recovered a handgun inside the bathroom where Hines was arrested.

Police said they received reports at about 11:25 a.m. Tuesday of gunshots in the 2200 block of Gilead. When officers arrived, they found a 44-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg. Police said the wound was not life-threatening.

Witnesses told police that one of the alleged offenders had gone inside the library in the 2400 block of Gabriel Avenue.

The library was placed on a temporary lockdown as officers entered to secure the facility. Hines was taken into custody without incident inside a bathroom, police said.

Hines was charged with eight weapons-related felony counts, including unlawful use of a firearm by a felon and aggravated battery with a firearm. He was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, police said.
