Special holiday hours for park district facilities

Naperville Park District will offer holiday hours at several of its facilities.

The Fort Hill Activity Center will be open 6 a.m. to noon Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day. It will reopen Dec. 26 with normal hours. The Fort Hill Activity Center will be open 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. New Year’s Eve and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. New Year’s Day.

Naperbrook Golf Course will end operations for the season Dec. 23.

Springbrook Golf Course will be open, weather permitting, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 26-30. It will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

If moderate temperatures continue and there is no snow, Springbrook may stay open longer, park district officials said. Golfers can check www.golfnaperville.org for updates.

Beginning in January, the golf shops at both courses will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays to Fridays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

The Sportsman’s Park Trapshooting Range will be open 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 23 and 30 and noon to 6 p.m. Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

The Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center will be open until noon Christmas Eve for scheduled programs only and closed Dec. 25-26. Hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 27-30 and then closed through Jan. 2.

The Knoch Knolls Nature Center will be closed from Dec. 22 through Jan. 2.

Only one business fails tobacco compliance check

A Naperville Police Department check of 77 Naperville businesses for compliance with laws prohibiting the sale of tobacco and alternative nicotine products to anyone under the age of 21 netted only one citation.

The BP gas station at 2888 Book Road was ticketed for selling a product illegally to an underage buyer, a police department news release said. The checks were conducted in early December.

The Naperville Police Department was awarded a grant by the Illinois Department of Human Services Tobacco Enforcement Program to help educate retailers on the minimum age tobacco laws and the importance of verifying customers’ ages before selling these products.

Schmaltz offering food discount for donated coats

Schmaltz Delicatessen locations in Naperville and Wheaton will be collecting new and slightly used coats, hats and mittens through the end of January.

Anyone who makes a donation will receive 15% off their order, with the donated items going to multiple charities in the area as part of the deli’s campaign to help keep community members warmly dressed in the winter.

The restaurant’s two locations are at Residents who donate can bring winter gear to Schmaltz locations at 1512 N. Naper Blvd. in Naperville and 390 W. Front St. in Wheaton.
