A former Merrillville football player was shot and killed Wednesday night.
At around 7 p.m. Wednesday night, Merrillville Police officers were dispatched to the 7200 block of Taft Street for shots fired, Merrillville Detective Sgt. Sean Buck said in a release Thursday morning. There, they secured the scene and called on medical aid for a man shot at the scene as well as two other people who were injured by gunfire, Buck said. The two others were treated, but the man died from his wounds.
Aahric Whitehead, 20, of the 4000 block of West 75th in Merrillville, was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m. at the scene, the Lake County Coroner’s office said in a release.
