Gary Police found a 39-year-old man dead due to mulitple gunshot wounds on Wednesday morning.
The deceased man was identified as Andre D. White, who resided at 4300 block of W. 23rd Place, about a half mile southeast of where he was found, according to a release from the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Gary Police spokeswoman Lt. Dawn Westerfield said in a release that officers, around 8:26 a.m. Wednesday, responded to the 4800 block of West 21st Avenue, near Hovey Place, and talked with two concerned citizens who’d found what they believed was a body face down in a grassy area. Gary medics were called to the scene and confirmed it was a man who’d suffered burns to part of his body.
The man had no identification on him, so initially the Lake County Coroner’s office had listed him as “John Doe.”
The Gary Metro Homicide Unit is investigating. Anyone who knows who the man might be or has information on his death is urged to contact the Metro Homicide Unit at 219-755-3855 or the Crime Tip Line at 866-CRIME-GP.
