The Porter County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal crash that took place early Wednesday afternoon in Washington Township in which a LaPorte man died.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:07 p.m. in the area of Indiana 2 and County Road 400 North, according to Cpl. Ben McFalls, the department’s public information officer.
The Porter County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as Tony Passafume, 57.
An initial investigation shows Passafume, who was driving, was southwest on Indiana 2 when he was passing vehicles and drove into the grass. He lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a guardrail.
Passafume died at the scene and a female passenger was transported to Northwest Health-Porter for neck and back injuries, McFalls said.
The department’s crash reconstruction team is investigating.
The Porter County Coroner’s Office assisted in the investigation.
