IU Northwest receives $3 million grant to increase retention and graduation rates

Indiana University Northwest was recently awarded a $3 million grant from the Developing Hispanic Serving Institution (DHSI) Program at the U.S. Department of Education (ED). The award will be distributed to IU Northwest at $600,000 per year for the next five years.

INVEST (INspiring, Valuing, and Empowering Success Together) has three primary goals — improving retention and graduation rates; enhancing instruction; and building a culture of student success through strong leadership — delivered through three strategic components:

Student success interventions: Implementing programs, including a summer bridge course, a financial literacy module, and career exploration resources, to support students who experience lower levels of student success.

Academic and student service investments: Developing active learning classrooms, creating a Student Success Center to integrate support services, and establishing an Office of Student Success to build a culture of success and assessment.

Professional development: Building faculty and staff excellence through professional development and resources to improve teaching and learning that optimizes student outcomes.

Franciscan Health Foundation Gala set for Oct. 29 at Field Museum

After cancelling in 2020 due to COVID-19 and hosting a virtual event last year, the Franciscan Health Foundation is pleased to announce the return of the annual gala, live and in-person, at The Field Museum in Chicago.

The Franciscan Health Foundation Gala will take place from 6-11 p.m. on Oct. 29 at The Field Museum, 1400 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. The event will feature a cocktail hour, four dinner stations, live music by the Connexion Band, dancing, a silent auction and fellowship. The Field Museum will also open its exhibits, allowing guests to explore during the celebration.

The silent auction is open to the public and participants do not need to attend the Gala to bid on auction items. The Franciscan Health Foundation is accepting donations for the silent auction through Oct. 14. Auction items can be viewed and bid upon online at https://qtego.net/qlink/franciscanhealth.

All of the proceeds from the event will be used to support the Community Health & Wellness Fund in the Northern Indiana and South Suburban Chicago Foundations.

Gala tickets are $300 each for the public, $250 for Franciscan Health co-workers at the director level or below. The registration deadline is Oct. 14. Registration is available online at https://www.franciscanhealthfoundation.org/2022Gala.
